Background:
To mark the 10th anniversary of the TED conferences, founder Richard Saul Wurman invited 10 leading information design firms to contribute to a book that explained the United States visually.
This map was designed using census data, GIS applications and traditional illustration software. As satellite photos of the country at night show where populations are centralized, this map shows population density based on census data related to population per square mile for every city, small town and county in the US.
